To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a novel which should be read, re-read, kept, and cherished. I cannot stress that enough. For a challenge, try writing a short piece in style Harper Lee used in writing this, her only novel.
Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom~a non fiction work in which writer Mitch Albom tells the story of a former sociology professor of his who is diagnosed with a terminal disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ~ ALS). He goes back to see the professor and begins, by consent and request of the professor, to visit him every Tuesday for the purpose of interviewing him for a book about his life. In the process he also tells about the gradually advancing symptoms of the disease. Most importantly, he tells about the man’s spirit in life and dignity in the death process. It is a must read for everyone. This has become one book that I have read over and over again and have purchased and gifted to others.
Rape–A Love Story by Joyce Carol Oates~a contradiction in terms for sure, but a captivating novel which begins with a horrific rape, described in a very realistic way, then unfolds as a love story which paves the way for recovery and survival. This is a good one, despite the nature of the subject. Very well done.
